After clearfelling, the area must be replanted and a new forest established. This can be more difficult than establishing an entirely new plantation on farmed land. Normally the brash or lop and top is windrowed and plants are pit planted beside the cut stump. In wet sites mounding may be necessary. Control measures must be put in place to prevent damage by the Pine weevil on the new plants.
